Cottage plans, bungalow house plans, and log cabin house plans have been romanticized more than most other house plan styles. Given that
many vernacular styles abound this country, from small cottage house plans, Southern Creole cottages, Michigan vacation cottages and bungalow plans of the north, it’s no wonder that almost
any cozy and quaint home often is referred to as a cottage. Most of the
cottage plan homes in this unique house plan collection from Alan Mascord Design Associates, Inc.
are inspired by the English cottage home, a style revived in the 1930s and
40s. These storybook cottage plan charmers were typically smaller homes featuring steep
gables, a prominent brick or stone chimney, and roof cladding that appears to
mimic an English thatched roof. Siding was typically brick, stone, or stucco.
Other designs in this collection though, befit more American vernacular looks.
